When Mexico City was named as the New York Times’ number one city destination for 2016, more than a few eyebrows were raised. Whereas holidays to Mexico’s Caribbean coast bring to mind golden sands, turquoise waters, palm trees and a vibrant party atmosphere, the country’s capital has much darker associations – with gangs, drugs, congestion and pollution.
But away from the sensationalist headlines there has been something of a green revolution taking place in this much-maligned metropolis and perhaps its high time for a re-evaluation….
